Port Talbot has been shaped by industry for over a century. At its peak in the 1960s, the steelworks employed 18,000 people, the single biggest employer in Wales.

When complete, it will cut the steelworks' carbon emissions by approximately 90%. Over 1,000 foundation piles, some up to 28 metres deep, are already in the ground. More than 360,000 tonnes of material have been excavated from the site. This is a multi-year build with contractor teams on site now.
A £64 million grant has been awarded to Associated British Ports to design and engineer one of the first floating offshore wind ports in the UK at Port Talbot, unlocking an initial 4.5 GW of Celtic Sea projects and thousands of jobs.
Spanning Port Talbot and Milford Haven, the Celtic Freeport is set to attract £8.4 billion in investment, deliver 11,500 new jobs, and add £8.1 billion in economic value to the region.
Seven miles north-east of Port Talbot, the Wildfox Resorts project is taking shape in the Afan Valley, a major resort development nestled above the River Afan, 20 minutes from Junction 40 of the M4. Another stream of construction and infrastructure work pulling teams into the area.
